Electricity from the sun

Photovoltaics system

Along with the inverter, the PV system is one of the central components of a home power plant.

In the semiconductor of the solar module the sunlight is absorbed and converted into electric current. The remaining components serve to protect this semiconductor and make the construction manageable.

There are a large number of PV manufacturers that produce solar modules in different quality levels.

We select the most suitable PV modules for your location. Various parameters are taken into account in the selection process. Such as:

– Generated power

– Stability of the protective glass (protection against animals)

– Stability of the frame (protection against bad weather)

Direct current to alternate current

Inverter

The inverter is an indispensable component of your home power plant. It converts the direct current generated in the photovoltaic system into alternating current so that it can be used in your household.

In addition to the conversion of direct current into alternating current, modern inverters have many other tasks, e.g. frequency maintenance and energy management of the home power plant.  In addition, the current inverters manage to keep the solar modules consistently at the maximum power point by selectively changing the internal resistance. At this point the maximum power can be made usable for them.

In order for your home power plant to work optimally, the inverter must be carefully dimensioned. If the inverter is too small, there is a risk of overheating.

Electricity even without sun

Power storage

The average power outage rate in Nairobi is about 3.8 hours per week. The disruptions usually come unpredictably and at the most inopportune times. According to statistics, most of the time in the morning hours before you leave for work and in the evening when you want to end the day comfortably with your family.

An electricity storage unit stores surplus electricity for later use. In combination with a photovoltaic system, solar electricity can also be used when the sun is not shining, i.e. when the solar modules are not currently generating electricity.

The formula for partial independence from the electricity grid and from rising electricity prices is therefore PV system + electricity storage.

100% independent

Generator

As outlined in the previous section, “Power Storage,” the average power outage rate in Nairobi is 3.8 hours per week.

However, every statistic has its pitfalls, and the average is of little help to those who are regionally affected by a power outage lasting hours or days. Storms and grid overloads, but also maintenance work, can lead to power outages.

With the solar and electricity storage technology available on the market to date, it is not possible to supply oneself 100% independently of the grid operator. This is because the cost of a system capable of achieving this would be immensely high.

But EnergieSolutions has a solution for this as well – we extend your home power plant with a diesel generator, which secures your power supply when the electricity storage is empty and the sun is not shining.

Hot water

Solar heating

You would like to have your domestic water heated by the sun? This works with a solar thermal system.

This type of solar system uses the heat of the sun’s rays. This is possible with the help of flat or tubular solar collectors on the roof, which usually contain black coated absorber surfaces.

Unlike a photovoltaic system, which uses solar cells to generate electricity from sunlight, a solar thermal system provides heat for heating domestic water.
